The Visual Arts and Design department offers a wide range
of excellent facilities, including art studios, a photography
darkroom and studio, specialist textiles equipment and two
computer suites, with both Mac and PC packages for developing
art & design work. Students develop work in a variety
of media, including fine art, graphics, fashion and photography.

Students in all year groups have many opportunities to exhibit
their work throughout the year. All our shows and links
with galleries such as the ICA and Dulwich Picture Gallery
ensure students gain skills in publicising and curating
exhibitions. All shows and exhibitions are to a very high
standard we are constantly working to make them bigger and
better every year.
Students have gone on to pursue careers in a wide range
of areas such as fine art, graphics, illustration, fashion
design, surface design, animation and photography. Students
have continued on to foundation and degree courses at top
art colleges, including St Martins, Camberwell, Chelsea,
London College of Communication and London College of Fashion.
The department aims to give students the opportunities to
enter competitions in which they have been most successful
both within school and externally. Most recently, students
have entered and won a competition to design a caravan for
the BRIT Awards after party.

Recent activities include a project with the ICA,
life drawing workshops, visits from professional artists,
animators & graphic designers. All year groups go on
many gallery visits throughout the year, this year post
16 students went to Berlin for a 4 day residential, which
was very successful and the students really enjoyed their
experience.
We are also very involved with community based projects
such as local mural commissions and every year post 16 students
go to St. Giles’ Special School working with their
students on a 1 week collaborative project.
