Musical Theatre

You will spend your time improving your technique in singing, dancing and acting skills through hard work and discipline.   If you are a versatile and open minded performer then you will fit right in to this rigorous and vibrant course.

Our courses are exciting, busy and hard work but extremely rewarding and enjoyable. We offer students an equal focus on dance, acting and singing.

We welcome students with a wide range of skills and backgrounds, and this creates an environment where our students are encouraged to respect and appreciate differences. The course is very hard work and is likely to be very different to what you have experienced so far in your school life.  Students will need to commit wholly to a full timetable, long hours and expect a high degree of intensity within the training.

As a department, we are at the forefront of exploring new writing and will expect you to be open minded in your response to challenging material and repertoire which may push boundaries.

We are looking for potential in all three areas of the performing arts and a ‘can do’ attitude.

The musical theatre department has a strong tradition of staging impressive, large-scale productions in the School’s theatres, as well as many studio showcase performances. These projects give students a real insight into the demands of tackling high quality repertoire.

Past productions include Carrie The Musical, Fiddler on the Roof and Thoroughly Modern Millie, Carousel, Company, Crazy For You, Urinetown, A New Brain, Parade, Spring Awakening, Hair, Pippin and Into the Woods. Productions play to sell out audiences and enjoy considerable critical success. Students completing our courses go on to further training at vocational schools and university. Past students can be found taking on lead roles in West End productions, featuring in television dramas, singing and dancing on cruise ships, setting up community theatre companies and working within the music industry. Many other students enjoy careers in performing arts-related industries.
