Musical Theatre Students Perform 'Zombie Prom'
The piece observes 1950’s American
ideals, and although spoofs the musicals that sit within
the “All American, High School” genre, it
is deeply underpinned with political comments on contemporary
America and its history.
Set during Eisenhower Presidency, we meet high school
students getting ready for “just another day”
at Enrico Fermi High. The school has been very deliberately
named after Enrico Fermi, the developer of the first nuclear
reactor. This is our first example that although this
piece is witty and light hearted, beneath the superficial
gloss of super size characters, we know that there is
irony and embedded within the writing.
The piece comes with a very specific stylistic quality.
This makes the piece incredibly difficult to communicate
and the stylisation is paramount in successfully achieving
this.
