The Crescent Primary School and Birmingham Ormiston Academy
Story Published: 08th Nov 2011
This term marked the opening of these two schools. The Crescent is a 3-form entry primary school for local children formed by a Trust set up by Croydon Council and The BRIT School. It is housed in the adjacent Edwardian building to ours on The Crescent under the leadership of headteacher Jane Fairbourn. In its first year it has accepted a bulge of 150 reception aged children to support the chronic shortage of school places in the local area. This first year is partly housed in temporary accommodation with the whole building due to be completed in the Summer of 2012.
The Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) was born out of a partnership between The BRIT School and Maverick Television. It is sponsored by the charity Ormiston Education and Birmingham City University. This year is has opened its doors to nearly 300 Year 12 students in its brand new buildings in the centre of Birmingham. It is modelled on The BRIT and will in time hold 920 14 – 19 year olds.
