BRITKIDS+ has launched!

BRIT KIDS+ THE UK’S BIGGEST CREATIVE COMMUNITY HAS LAUNCHED ONLINE CLASSES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 8-18 IN PERFORMING ARTS, CREATIVE ARTS AND MEDIA.

30 June- Croydon

BRIT Kids is The BRIT School’s Saturday community classes celebrating nearly 20 years of delivering a full creative and performing arts program to 850 students. Something magical happened when we moved to online classes during the pandemic. Our teachers delivered over 85 inspiring, engaging classes to students to keep their creative minds buzzing over lockdown. We realised that we had achieved something rather special and wanted to take this creative hub and make it accessible to everyone in the United Kingdom.

We are therefore delighted to announce the UK’s biggest creative community of Saturday classes BRIT Kids+; an online streaming service with pre-recorded sessions in Performing Arts, Creative Arts and Media for 8-18 year olds. These classes are ideal for young people who aspire to make a career in the creative or performing arts and want to learn the critical life skills of cooperation, performance and creative thinking and making.

The workshops are devised and presented by the BRIT Kids team as well as teachers and alumni from the world famous BRIT School. Our classes are aimed at 8-18 year olds and are suitable for the whole family and the app means you can try lots of different creative subjects including digital design, filmmaking, singing, acting, art, songwriting and creative writing. You can either work together on projects, or leave your child to be entertained and creatively challenged. Our classes are taught with creative education at its heart.

Stuart Worden, Principal of The BRIT School said,

"As The BRIT School approaches its thirtieth birthday, it is entirely appropriate for us to launch BRIT Kids + nationally. Children can never be ‘given’ exposure to the arts and creativity and culture young enough. It opens them up to important skills that will serve them well through their lives - and gives them an invaluable sense of confidence. We know this from the 10,000 students that have gone through The BRIT School since it opened in 1991.

We want to thank Arts Council England and DCMS for recognising the cultural significance of The BRIT School as we continue to nurture young artists, regardless of their background, beliefs or who they are.

Cultural contribution is measurable socially and economically and has never been more important to a generation of children who have had to experience the last eighteen months. This is a significant development for BRIT - and I am delighted."

What parents have said of the online BRIT Kids lessons:

‘Your work makes the difference in the life of so many teenagers. I wish you could see the value and the impact of what you do.’

“I am unsure what he learns at BRIT Kids because he wants me completely out, but for sure something extraordinary must happen during those times because he comes out with an unstoppable smile, contentment and empowerment. The words “thank you” are inadequate to express the gratitude that I have for the work you all have done!”

About The BRIT School | brit.croydon.sch.uk

The BRIT School is a one of a kind FREE Performing and Creative Arts School. As a school for 14 to 19-year-olds, it is unique and pioneering in its approach to education. It recognises that most students intend to make a career in the arts, entertainment and communications industries, but the school expects all to follow full time courses to completion. It is a vocational school for students set on a life devoted to art, dance, music, musical theatre, radio, production, television/film and theatre.

BRIT stands for the British Record Industry Trust. Without the generosity of the record industry and funding from the BRIT Awards, the school would never have been built and its superb facilities would never have been installed. Nearly 100% of leavers in the last six years have either gone into higher education and/or jobs in the creative sector, the fastest growing of the UK’s economy.

BRIT Kids are creative weekend centres working in partnership with schools. We offer a safe place for children to explore their creativity and to challenge what they think the performing and creative arts can give them. These are fee-paying classes. Our values are ‘Creativity, Challenge, Community’.

Currently BRIT Kids runs at The BRIT School in Croydon and is due to launch in Canterbury College in October 2021. Details can be found by visiting the website: https://www.britkids.org/
