Accenture Prize winner announced

Accenture shortlist students pictured with Accenture partner, Andrew Meade

Each year members of The MITs Committee and Accenture come to the school to watch eight shortlisted music students perform.  Students are in with a chance of winning a £3,000 bursary to help fund their future.  This allows the individual to buy the necessary equipment or resources that they would not normally have the funds for.  The morning was a fantastic showcase of the rich musical talent the school has to offer with an array of different genres including  Soul, Blues, Boogie-woogie and Rock and Roll.

Last year's winner of the prize for Outstanding Solo Performance  was Mansur Brown who has since won a place studying jazz guitar at the Royal Academy of Music.

Let's take a look at this year's shortlist:

Morgane Lola

The Windmills of Your Mind with French lyrics by Eddy Marnay and English lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergam.

Courtney Rowe

Glut by Nick Smith and John Whitt Jr.

Cody Lee

Death Ray Boogie by Pete Johnson

Kitty Murphy Page

Gone by Lianne La Havas

Joe Arksey

Workin' Man Blues by Merle Haggard

Francesca Morris

Lost and Found by Lianne La Havas

Erin Kavanagh

Angels by Sarah McLachlan

Jim Reed

P.Y.T  by Michael Jackson and arranged by Jacob Collier

After much deliberation, the award was given to Morgane Lola for her unique French and English performance with Jim Reed the runner up.   Morgane says, 'Being half French, I enjoy connecting with that side of me as well as the playfulness of the English language'.  When talking about the song, 'It's a dreamy song that makes so much sense to me... A technical challenge is the belting required in the song, which puts me out of my comfort zone.'

Morgane was overwhelmed and thanked the committee for the bursary, 'I am in shock.  I didnt think that I did my best, but I am always so hard on myself.  Thank you, that's all I can say.'

Morgane is looking to spend the £3,000 prize money on the SE Electronics X1 and RF-X Studio Bundles Microphone package to enable her to record demos at home.  She is also going to buy a Neumann KMS105 Super Cardioid Vocal Microphone for her live performances and to enhance her songwriting skills, Morgane is planning to attend the UK Songwriting Festival in 2016 where she will spend five days gigging and writing songs with top professionals.
