Most people will need to use good oral communication skills in their careers. Initially you may lack confidence in your ability but throughout your course you will be encouraged to develop oral skills both formally and informally through tutorials and presentations.
We recognise that whilst you may have limited experience of presenting written information, the ability to produce professional written material is very important.
Independent Learning and Study Skills
As a new student you will need to develop effective approaches to learning and methods of study so that you are able to make optimum use of your learning opportunities. You will be encouraged to become greatly self-reliant and enterprising and to develop proficiency in a range of transferable skills. Such skills will not only help you to obtain better results as an undergraduate, but will also be highly valued by prospective employers.
We will provide support and encouragement to develop and manage your own learning. We provide you with a sound foundation in a variety of skills including independent learning, time management, group work, and report writing, presentation and study skills.
Individual & Team Work
You will be expected to work hard both individually and in groups. Self-motivation and the ability to manage your time effectively are important requirements. You should enjoy reading widely. Individual work includes conducting research, writing in a variety of styles, completing assignments and preparing for seminar sessions. We develop your team working abilities on the course by requiring you to work on group presentations. Some of the group work is assessed.
