As well as being a superb celebration of music, The BRIT Awards is of course the biggest fundraising night for The BRIT Trust who continue to generously support the work of the School. Read article in fullThe BDC department offers a wide range of media production qualifications through excellent technical facilities and specialist teaching. Students are able to work in the television studio, video editing suites, radio studios, computer suites and photography darkroom to develop a variety of practical and theoretical skills in media production.
Recent activities include visits from industry professionals, participation in technical and creative workshops, a variety of trips and ‘BRIT FM’ radio broadcasting to the local community. Students have gone on to study media degrees at the country’s premier universities including Ravensbourne, Westminster, Leeds and Bournemouth.
After completion of our courses students have gone on to study a wide range of degrees from specialist video and radio production to journalism, marketing, PR, advertising and mulitmedia. Our courses provide students with up to date technical and industry knowledge allowing them to gain work in their chosen field.
Barrington Paul-Robinson conducted an ideas workshop to our new year 12s today who are starting to plan their music videos. Barrington used his experience of working on music videos and working in the media industry to help offer advice and guidance.

The dance courses offer wide-ranging training and opportunities within many dance styles including classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap and social and cultural dance styles such as African-Caribbean and lindy hop. Alongside this technical training students develop their creative skills through choreography and improvisational classes and workshops. Such training is then further supported by classes in dance appreciation and performing arts appreciation.
The Music courses offer students the opportunity to develop a range of musical skills with the emphasis on Vocational Training. Preparing and rehearsing for live performance gives students the opportunity to work with other musicians on cover versions and original material. They are encouraged to develop their practical skills both as soloists and in ensemble settings. They are also encouraged to broaden their range of performance experience so will work on projects in a range of styles and genres.
Back in February, Year 13 Music Students blew audiences away two nights in a row with outstanding performances of music from the movies to live footage of the films.
Year 12 and Year 10 students performed an amazing show last night in front of a massive crowd at the Fairfield Halls Ashcroft Theatre. Their performances included varied interpretations of classic songs from Samba to Ska.
The Musical Theatre courses are designed to give an equal focus to dance, drama and music, and the development of skills and knowledge in these performance disciplines. Musical Theatre students are typically versatile and flexible in their approach to the performing arts. Both the Key Stage 4 and Post 16 courses are very popular, with students coming from a wide range of backgrounds.

In Technical Theatre Arts we run the BTEC Extended National Diploma in Production Arts. It is a two year free course that provides you with excellent learning opportunities that will help to develop you with the skills to pursue a professional career within the Performing Arts industry. Our philosophy is very 'hands on', and the learning is delivered as much as possible in a realistic working environment through practical exercises, simulated work environments and technical roles for shows in the School’s theatres.
Avolites have leant a helping hand to The Brit School, Croydon, by equipping their training facilities with a Tiger Touch and Titan Mobile, serving to nurture emerging lighting talent. The promise of further support also comes from the offer to work alongside tutors to build a programme of training in the near future. This would be held at the Brit School site for pupils studying the Technical Theatre course.
Andrew Smith and Alex Marchant; accompanied by yr. 13 students Ian McCarthy, Courtney Mortimer, Jack Cunninghan and Nikki Freer, have gone up to the Birmingham Ormiston Academy launch which is taking place this weekend.
Throughout the course students will benefit from workshops with professional actors, writers, directors and producers. Students are expected to go on theatre trips organised by the department at least once a term. The futures for our students are bright and exciting. Theatre students have gone on to study at many leading drama schools including RADA, Central, Rose Bruford, Drama Centre, East 15, LIPA and the London Academy. Good Night Out, Performed by Year 11 Theatre Students.
Year 11 Theatre students are performing two shakespeare plays at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon. Schools around the country have condensed a Shakespeare play into half an hour to make a programme of four plays in an evening.
The Visual Arts and Design department offers a wide range of excellent facilities, including art studios, a photography darkroom and studio, specialist textiles equipment and two computer suites, with both Mac and PC packages for developing art & design work. Students develop work in a variety of media, including fine art, graphics, fashion and photography.
This year selected Year 12 BTEC National Diploma Visual Arts students are working with Addington High school's Year 8 Gifted and Talented students to create animation, sets and visuals for the Bloomsbury Theatre collaboration across the school.
So far our students have been designing and delivering workshops to Addington involving screen printing, model making for sets and animation characters, T-shirt design, split pin puppets, typography and much more...
Started in 2007, Film & Digital Arts (FDA) is the second string to the schools creative bow.
FDA acts as a hub for collaborations between the various creative strands and advocates the use of the digital technologies to students and teachers, opening up a whole new area of creativity, and promoting the internet as a way of featuring their work.

The school provides a National Curriculum offer at Key Stage 4 and all the subjects below are our contribution to this offer. Some of these subjects are also taught in the post 16 curriculum as AS and/or A2 courses e.g. English. All the subjects listed here have their own pages.

This is an exciting new two-year course designed for post 16 students. The BTEC Extended Diploma in Interactive Media (equivalent to 3 A Levels) introduces students to the design and study of computer games, mobile devices and technologies including app design, web design, online television and radio, 3D animation and environments, magazine design for the iPad and television graphics and idents. Students will also undertake work experience placements to help facilitate knowledge of the Interactive Media industry.

This course is for students who are interested in using the performing arts for more than just performing. Whatever arts background a student might come from this course will allow them to develop skills as a community arts practitioner. Students will develop skills that will allow them to use the performing arts as a positive force for change and development. There will be the opportunity to work directly with various community groups including primary and secondary schools, students with special needs, victims of crime, the elderly, refugees and people in prison.

Creative Design & Technology aims to engage students in creative problem solving using innovative technology and design techniques. Students will develop a range of digital design skills and an understanding of the processes and methods associated with contemporary design and production. Areas of study include 3-D digital modelling, injection moulding and casting, prototype design and 2D digital manipulation. The focus will very much be on a combination of practical technical skills and creative problem solving looking to prepare students for a future in design, media, technical theatre arts and the visual arts.

Students successfully completing this course and meeting certain criteria can top up their FdA to a BA at Bournemouth University.
