Selection Criteria

Background and Experience

We want committed, keen, enthusiastic students who are going to make a real difference to the course they are studying. Our students learn from each other, as well as their academic staff, so it is really important to us that you can show us how much you care about the course you are interested in. Your UCAS personal statement is a great place to do this. Tell us about your personal achievements or any relevant work experience you have done, and show us how they make you the ideal candidate for a place on the course.

For FdA Digital Media Practice, we are looking for applicants who can:

  • demonstrate both intellectual and creative abilities
  • show an aptitude and enthusiasm for their chosen digital media specialism
  • have an appreciation of the complexities of digital media and influence of technological advances
  • possess a strong awareness of the visual arts
  • demonstrate good written and oral communication skills

Information on the type of applicant sought:

Students on this course will typically have a creative background and have had some work experience in the digital media industry. Students may also have some experience using multi-media technology, such as basic film and editing skills, web and graphic design.

Students will also have a proven ability to work creatively, in groups and individually. We are looking for creative and innovative thinkers who are familiar with new digital technologies.

We would encourage applicants who are interested in new ideas, can express themselves well in writing, work well in groups and can demonstrate a wide range of interests.

Students should be familiar with using computers for assignments and group activities. Students will be using mainly Apple computers whilst on the course, and using the editing program Final Cut Pro, however it is not an essential requirement for the course for students to have previous familiarity with this. Students are not required to own their own PC or Mac.

Selection Methods

We'll use the UCAS application to create a shortlist of candidates that we would like to interview; we're looking for experience, enthusiasm and ambition as well as qualifications.

Preferred subjects

You will probably have studied creative arts, media or humanities subjects, but we welcome applicants who have studied a variety of subjects and can bring other perspectives to the student group.
