The music industry today demands ‘portfolio musicians’ who are equally comfortable performing, producing, engineering or directing a project. The modern creative landscape has no room for single-track, isolated artists who lack the range of professional skills that are required to thrive in a competitive field.  

At The BRIT School we build the future of the music industry. Our curriculum is a live, deeply integrated vocational course where live instrumentation, digital production and vocal performance collide. We don't just teach music; we celebrate and dissect the sounds shaping global culture. Whether your specialism is guitar, a MIDI keyboard, DJ decks, a saxophone or your own voice and lyrics - The BRIT School is your training ground.

Wired into the Industry

Our students train in facilities that rival the world's best professional studios and build direct networks with global industry giants.

• World-Class Technical Partnerships: We work closely with leading industry innovators. For our Music Tech students, this means direct, hands-on integration with pioneers like Solid State Logic (SSL) and Dolby (via our state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos immersive mixing suite), using software like Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Ableton.
   
• Creative Industry Networks: Learn directly from visiting professionals, successful alumni, and representatives from labels, publishers, and advocacy groups via our regular program of guest speakers. Recent guests and masterclasses have included artists and executives from Atlantic Records, Spotify, Apple Music, PRS for Music, and Music Support. Students also connect with industry via placements at record labels, management, studios and venues.
   
• The Global Stage: Students routinely showcase their work at legendary external venues and festivals, including SXSW London, The Alternative Escape (Brighton), and The London Palladium.

The Two-Year Journey: How You Will Grow

We offer two distinct but deeply collaborative pathways under the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance & Production (equivalent to 3 A Levels). Whichever path you choose, you will not stay within your comfort zone for long.

Both routes study essential industry context, music theory, ethnomusicology, and creative entrepreneurship, but focus on distinct core skill sets:

Music Route - Performance, Songwriting & Lyricism

For confident, versatile instrumentalists, singers and rappers who want to perform, write, and arrange at the highest level.

What you need: You must be a confident performer on your chosen instrument, with the collaborative openness to play, flow, and write in diverse, challenging ensembles. We welcome applications from vocalists, rappers, and MCs who are ready to bring their lyricism and delivery into live, collaborative band environments, and applications from all types of instrumentalists.

Music Technology Route - Production, Engineering & Performance

For producers, beat-makers, sound designers, and engineers who want to control the sonic environment from the studio to the stage as well as write and produce the music of the future.

What you need: A strong technical aptitude, an ear for detail, and a passion for music technology. Whether your focus is on studio tracking, live sound, or digital beat production (Logic, Ableton, FL Studio), you must be ready to learn and collaborate. Applications from performers and/or song-writers are actively encouraged.

Original Work: Always at the Centre

No matter the route, original music is at the core of everything that we do, and is woven throughout the course. There are regular opportunities to write, collaborate on, and showcase original material - whether you are writing neo-soul, acoustic indie, drill, R&B, metal or electronic music - in various performance spaces both on and offsite.       

This constant creative output builds toward your Final Major Project. Having spent seven terms mastering collaborative work, technical engineering, and diverse musical styles, you will finally step forward to launch your definitive original artistic vision.

 

What Are We Looking For?

We don't care what your favourite genre is - it could be jazz, drill, rock, grime, pop, R&B, or classical. And you don’t need individual music exam grades. We are looking for:

1. Creative young people who care about the wider culture, history, and social power of music.

2. Self-starters who are already actively writing lyrics, making beats, singing or playing in and out of school.

3. Collaborators who are excited about elevating their peers, sharing responsibility and learning new skills.
