We are offering an innovative and exciting Interactive Digital Design course that will allow students to explore a range of new technologies and practices in design that are relevant to the pace of technological change. The Interactive Digital Design course @ 14 introduces students to graphic design, providing a strong foundation in the components of design through vocational projects. Students will also participate in specialist sessions introducing them to animation, UX design, 3D modelling, games design and photo manipulation, which they can study on our P16 course.

Course Information

Alongside these weekly specialist software and design skill-building sessions, you will study for a NCFE Level 2 Technical Award in Graphic Design, equivalent to GCSE 9-4. You will learn about the components of design, work of graphic designers, how to develop a creative response to a design brief, and how to display, present & promote your design work.

Student Experience

So that you can get the most up to date experience on this course, there are fully equipped iMac design studios with the latest design software including the full Adobe Creative Suite and Autodesk Maya. There are also dedicated Nvidia RTX PC studio for 3D design, rendering, game production and VFX including Unreal Engine. You will also have access to all software at home. Plus, you get to use hardware such as XP drawing tablets, DSLR cameras and green screen equipment.

The Interactive Digital Design course promotes and exploits technology; mobile devices and social media within the teaching and learning environment.

The course includes visits from professional designers, animators, design agencies, games developers and VFX Specialists. We have had talks and workshops from companies such as Apple, Meta, Aardman Animation, Framestore, McCann, The Mill and Escape Studios. We ensure our students are kept up to date with current design initiatives by attending exhibitions, entering competitions and exhibiting student work in our Interactive Digital Design exhibition.

What Qualities Do I Need?

You should be a young designer who is interested in technology and the creative opportunities it presents. We want students who have ideas, who are interested in design and who are strong at working both independently and collaboratively. You have to be self-motivated and have an enthusiasm to learn. You will have ideally come from a media, ICT, art or design and technology background.
