Still in progress | Mia Zeferino-Birchall - Yr 13
I wanted to create a piece that symbolised my transformation from someone that was always worried about making a 'final piece' and coming up with an idea that was good enough or interesting enough to now being an artist that now focuses more on experimenting and playing with materials. Someone that now sees a project as a journey rather than a final outcome. Studying at BRIT has taught me how to be confident in myself and my ideas and with that has come this enjoyment of making and experimenting. My work can forever be 'in progress'- Mia Zeferino-Birchall
Knit Together | Mia Zeferino-Birchall - Yr 13
Over the last two years at BRIT my work has transformed significantly and has become a lot more collaborative. After spending so much time in lockdown, not being able to visit galleries or see people outside my home, I found myself turning to my family for a lot of inspiration. These pieces symbolise that transformation and serve as a metaphor for the collaborative nature of my current work whilst still linking back to my past through the use of knitting, which was my first introduction into arts and craft from my mother and grandmothers. Being 'Knit Together' means to join and grow together.
